News from the Vineyard
Spring is here and time for us to touch base with all of our friends. This last winter was quite mild compared to the previous year. Very little snow fell upon us and temperatures were a bit above normal. In October we planted our winter cover crop of rye and clover in between the rows to keep our soil healthy and full of nutrients for the vines. As January rolled around and the vines were dormant we pruned in preparation for an early spring. Just as expected in an El Nino year we have seen warmer temps and a fair number of sunny days. This has brought the vines back to life earlier than normal this year. While we haven’t seen bud break just yet but we expect it any time.
Upcoming Events
As the vines are coming to life this spring, so is our calendar. We’ve lined up a few of great events to get us primed for what we hope to be a long, warm, and busy summer. We kick it off with a trip to Grants Pass where we’ll be pouring at the Oregon Outpost for First Friday. For those of you looking for an excuse to take a trip to the coast, we’ll be at the Astoria Crab and Seafood Festival. Memorial Day is the next big weekend. We will be at the winery grilling chicken to pair with our wonderful wines. $10.00 includes chicken, sides, flight of wines, and, a logo glass.
Tasting Room Hours
We could think of no better way to celebrate May Day by opening the winery for the summer season. Both a celebration of spring and, in modern times, workers’ rights, whichever you prefer to celebrate come to McMinnville and visit us for some good conversation and great wine. As the 1st of May falls on a Saturday you’ll also be able to explore the Saturday Market which is right next door. Local craftspeople and farmers will have their wares for you to enjoy. We will be open from 12-5PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
